Exactly 30 anniversary since the first Toy Story film was released, launching the animation giant as a leading film company and bringing audiences to iconic figures like Woody (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now household names.

Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, providing a glimpse into the storyline but keeping fans wondering how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Toys

In the teaser shows Bonnie — who received Andy's toys when he left for college — getting a latest toy, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. She acquires her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.

Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like the rest of her playthings. However, the characters seem to view it as a threat coming to replace them, which it likely will.

Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

An element the teaser avoids is why the sheriff is back with his companions in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a new adventure with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), journeying with a fair and assisting prize toys locate loving owners.

Surely, the filmmakers will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him show up in the familiar setting without warning is somewhat puzzling, however. It also raises questions whether his partner will have returned with him. And where is Duke Caboom (the star)?

Continuity from the Last Installment

At the very least, some aspects are continuing from the prior film. The final act the cowboy did before setting off for his new life was hand over his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (the voice actor), entrusting her in charge of the toy domain. In the teaser displays the badge attached to her outfit.

Hopefully she is still the driving force among the group.
