Micky van de Ven scored on two occasions as Tottenham extended their unbeaten run in away games in the top division and delivered Everton their initial loss at their new home.

Everton were undefeated in their last five matches at their new ground at Bramley-Moore Dock, having departed Goodison Park behind after more than a century at the conclusion of last season.

But Tottenham's leader the Dutchman pounced on two occasions from corners in the opening 45 minutes to place their strong form at risk, and they were unable to mount a comeback before the midfielder - set up by ex-Everton forward the Brazilian - headed home a third to put the game to bed.

Jake O'Brien thought he had equalized the tally a short while after Van de Ven's opener, glancing a powerful header past the Spurs keeper from an set-piece.

Beto, meanwhile, failed to convert a number of chances, while the Italian goalkeeper made a series of fine stops to ensure the London club went five away games without defeat in the Premier League.

But the video assistant referee stepped in, advising the match official to check the score on the pitchside monitor and the referee decided that the winger and the attacker were in an illegal position and had interfered with the Spurs keeper.

This victory moves the manager's team into third place in the Premier League, five points off local foes and leaders the Gunners.

Everton stay 14th and sit six points clear of the relegation zone.

Spurs breakdown: The defender excels in role at each end of the field

Following a uninspiring midweek performance in the European competition against Monaco, where they managed a mere two shots on target, the manager opted for the French striker up front instead of former Toffees player Richarlison.

The new arrival was failed to make much of an impact before being replaced for the substitute after 60 minutes on the pitch, but it turns out he proved unnecessary in the final outcome.

Defender Van de Ven transformed into an attacking force to be reckoned with.

Tottenham's first goal came from a well-worked set-piece play, with the midfielder directing the ball toward the six-yard box for an free Van de Ven to score.

And Ven de Ven - stepping up as skipper in the Argentine's unavailability - notched his second in added time as he outjumped the England keeper to nod in.

Van de Ven was equally outstanding in defence, combining well with Kevin Danso as the duo handled excellently with the numerous deliveries sent their way by the opposition.

Everton analysis: Everton missing finishing touch

The club's recent stadium had been a fortress, but it seems the novelty may have faded slightly and fans headed to the exits after the midfielder's final goal for Spurs.

The break in the team's unbeaten home run won't be a major worry for David Moyes, but their striker situation will be.

The forward and Thierno Barry - the Everton's two established centre-forwards - had scored only a single goal between them before the weekend's outing.

And they were failed to add to that poor tally on a damp and dreary night on in Liverpool.

The striker's form was epitomized when he chose to overhead kick a clear chance from near the goal, despite having room and time to reposition for a simpler shot that would have tested Vicario.

Barry, as well, was unable to make an impact after coming on for Beto in the second half.

It was not for a lack of opportunity. Most of Everton's offensive moves came through the winger and the forward, who tirelessly delivered dangerous crosses into the Spurs box.

What next for both teams?

Everton: The team travel to the Stadium of Light in the top flight on early November at 8 PM.

Spurs: The London club go to Newcastle's ground on late October for their fourth-round League Cup tie against the Magpies.
